Fishing
Fishing remains an extremely popular sport/hobby for many people. Many will start at a young age and will carry on fishing as they get older. For many, this is a relaxing way to spend time and they get to enjoy pitting their wits against fish to try and reel them in!

There are many different types of fishing that are popular. Many kids on holiday, for example, will buy simple nets, reels or basic fishing rods to try their luck and to see if they can catch something. The fun that they have here may well encourage them to try out fishing on a regular and more formal basis.
For many fishing is all about lake or pool pursuits. Here, the fisherman will often need a license to fish which will allow them to set up a spot on the riverside and to fish (usually in season but sometimes all year round). Many fishermen can happily spend whole days doing this.
Fly fishing is also very popular. This form of fishing involves a lot of skill and patience. Here, rather than baiting a hook with some food to attract the fish, the fisherman uses a fly on the end of his hook which he then dots around the water’s surface. This mimics the activity of a fly moving around the water and the aim is to trick a fish into coming for the fly only to discover it has a mouthful of hook!
Sea fishing is also extremely popular with some. Many fishermen that live on the coast will fish from the shore. At certain times of the day, in certain areas this can give them some rich pickings. This kind of fishing can be very different to lake and fly fishing, however.
Many fishing fans will also use their holidays as an opportunity to get some fishing in. This can take the form of organised fishing holidays where the sole aim of the break is to sail around to see what can be caught every day. This kind of holiday may suit the hard core fisherman best.
People on holiday could also take on single fishing trips on charters if they fancied it. This may involve just a couple of hours during the day or at night or a whole day out in a boat trying to catch some local fish. This can make a fun day out for many people.
